A veteran radio and TV personality, Jeremy Nicholas Cordeaux, faces court later this year for a third drink-driving charge. Details of the Recent Charge Against Cordeaux
Cordeaux, aged 79, was allegedly found to have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.108, which is more than twice the legal limit of 0.05. Police charged him with driving with excess blood alcohol, according to court documents. During a scheduled hearing at the Adelaide Magistrates Court, Cordeaux did not appear, prompting his lawyer, Hugh Woods, to request an adjournment to consult further with his client. The court has rescheduled the next hearing for October.
Cordeaux's Previous Offenses and Consequences
This latest charge adds to Cordeaux’s history of drink-driving offenses. He was previously charged in 2016 after driving home from a Christmas party, where he lost his license for six months and incurred fines totaling $1,470. He explained that he felt compelled to drive when his wife was unable to do so. Cordeaux faced similar charges again in 2019, and in 2021, he was disqualified from driving for another six months after pleading guilty to having a blood alcohol concentration of 0.056.
Controversial Remarks and Career Impact
Cordeaux's career, which spans nearly six decades, took a significant hit in 2021 when he was dismissed from his position at FIVEaa radio station. This followed his on-air remarks dismissing Brittany Higgins' allegations of rape as those of 'a silly little girl who got drunk'. His comments prompted an apology from fellow presenter David Penberthy and led to a termination of Cordeaux's contract. The management of FIVEaa and Nova Entertainment emphasized that Cordeaux's views did not align with the company's values and announced measures to prevent similar situations in the future.
